Why Chicago Is a Priority Market This Season

In its holiday hiring announcement, Macy's, Inc. named 10 markets where it expects greater store hiring for Macy's and seven for Bloomingdale's. Chicago is on both lists. Stores are filling part-time seasonal jobs, with in-person hiring days on three Thursdays: September 24, October 22 and November 19.

No Chicago headcount has been published, so treat Oct. 22 as a strong shot at a holiday job rather than a guaranteed offer.

There's no single published pay rate either. Macy's says every posting lists its own pay range, so read it before you apply. Listed perks include a colleague discount, a 401(k), eligibility-based medical, dental and vision coverage, and access to earned wages before payday.

🗺️ Picking Your Store, From State Street to Woodfield

Macy's State Street. The old Marshall Field's flagship fills the block between Randolph and Washington in the Loop. It's an easy Red or Blue Line commute and the only Macy's inside city limits.

Bloomingdale's, North Michigan Avenue. Macy's closed its Water Tower Place store in 2021, so the Mag Mile option now is Bloomingdale's at 900 North Michigan, near Oak Street and the Gold Coast.

Old Orchard, Skokie. Two chances in one trip. Macy's and a Bloomie's, Bloomingdale's curated store concept, both sit at the mall off the Edens, convenient for Rogers Park, Evanston, Lincolnwood and Niles.

Woodfield, Schaumburg. The pick for the Northwest suburbs, from Arlington Heights to Hoffman Estates.
